Spreadsheets with feedback

This is a group or individual assignment using Google Sheets or MS Excel that focuses on giving feedback and restricting access within spreadsheets.

Matrix multiplication

Create a spreadsheet to check 3x3 matrix multiplication.

The spreadsheet should:

Spread sheet gives more formative feedback based on common mistakes. Please indicate what types of mistakes I should test for, e.g. multiplying corresponding cells, multiplying columns by row or multiplying corresponding cells, etc.

Alternate algorithms

Create spreadsheets that provide step-by-step instructions for computing a product using other methods besides the US standard algorithm.

Alternate algorithms to address:

  1. Partial products
  2. Lattice multiplication

For each algorithm, the spreadsheet should:

Three digit challenge (+2)

Modify each algorithm to allow for three-digit factors, instead of just two-digit numbers. Remember \(999 \cdot 999 = 998001 \).

Protect Sheet

Google Sheets:

  1. Data > Protect Sheet and Ranges
  2. Select "Sheet"
  3. Type description (this can be anything like sheet name or activity name)
  4. Select "Except certain cells"
  5. Select or type cells that can be edited by student
  6. Select "Set permissions"
  7. Select "Show warning when editing cells"
  8. To get a link for your blog, please use the following directions to share in copy mode

Excel:

  1. Unlocking appropriate cells (Format > deselect Lock Cell)
  2. Protect worksheet (Format > Protect worksheet).
  3. PLEASE keep password blank!!!

For group assignments, only one submission is needed per group, but please make sure all group members have included their names on the submission.
